Poduromorpha are more compact, chunkier springtails, usually adapted to life in the soil and deeper substrate layers. Their body tends to be shorter and more robust, and many species have a reduced or less active furcula, meaning they jump little or not at all. This group includes several of the most interesting lines in the hobby, such as Lobella, Ceratophysella, Onychiurus, Onychiuridae, Yuukianura and others.
Because Poduromorpha often stay close to the substrate and leaf litter, they are excellent for bioactive systems where you want a discreet but very effective detritivore. They help break down organic material, control mold and recycle nutrients without constantly bouncing around the enclosure. Their diversity in colour and body shape also makes them attractive for keepers who enjoy observing and breeding more specialized springtail lines.
